You don't need to change how you make coffee. You just need to change how you pay attention to it.
Before you begin: Put your phone in another room. Not face-down on the table-in another room. The goal is to remove the option, not resist the temptation.
While you make it: Notice what your hands are doing. The weight of the beans. The texture of the grounds. The resistance of the lever or the sound of the water. Don't narrate it in your head-just feel it. Let the physical sensations be enough.
While you wait: Most of us use waiting time to check something. Instead, just wait. Watch the coffee drip or the steam rise. This isn't wasted time-it's the practice itself.
While you drink: Take the first sip before doing anything else. Let it sit on your tongue. Notice the temperature, the weight, the taste. You don't need to analyze it or find the right words. Just taste it.
When your mind wanders: It will. That's not failure-it's normal. When you notice you've drifted into planning or worrying, gently return to the cup. The warmth in your hands. The taste in your mouth. Come back as many times as you need to.
That's it. No special technique. No perfect execution. Just attention, returned again and again to something simple and good.
